Loved this hotel. Stayed originally for one night before a camping trip over Dartmoor. When the Beast from the East arrived and delivered snow, sleet, freezing rain and a howling gale, I was forced to retreat back to Exeter, where I was welcomed back and stayed for three more nights. Great food, fine beer in very pleasant surroundings. Room and bed were excellent and clean. An excellent central location for exploring Exeter on foot. Will stay there again when I come back.

Came across this little gem by accident on a weekend break. It was so good, we called in again on our way home. The service was amazing, the food was great and reasonably priced. Clean, comfortable and exceptional service from such a young team who all made us feel like they couldn't do enough for us or our two little dogs. Such a friendly place, will definitely go back on our next visit to Devon.

Just passing through the village and stumbled across the pub at lunchtime, so we didn't know what to expect. Except for the fact that the car park was packed - always a good sign! We weren't disappointed. The staff were very helpful and welcoming and the food was excellent. Very good choice of menu and reasonably priced.

Saw this establishment pop up a few times on my Farcebook profile, so as we were out over Exeter way, and heading home and passing just after 1pm "The Management" decided we would give it a try, as she was hungry. Large car park alongside enabled easy parking, with space for me to get out of the car easily (Less able) but didn't notice any marked spaces for disabled patrons. First impression of outside of the pub from the car park was it looks tired but clean, with plenty of outside seating available. Moving in through the ample doorway at roadside the long bar presents several West Country ales, and the usual plethora of spirits, and bottled offerings. Table requested to a young lad (Robbie ?) who in all honesty has more customer service skills and personality than many mature adults in a hospitality public facing role, pleasant and enthusiastic with a sense of humour happy to engage with whoever he encounters. The young lady behind the bar on this day (13*9*25) was efficient and polite with the "busyness" of the day making her task a little harder which showed, as nearby the local fayre was on increasing footfall but efficiency was the word of the day. Food..... Reasonable selection to cover most peoples tastes, at slightly higher prices than a "Chain" pub, prepared by someone in the kitchen who clearly has mastered the art of multiple orders cooking under pressure to a high standard. No problem with portion sizes or quality, and the chips were perfect as were the desserts. Beer at right temperature, and in clean glasses Decor.... Hmmm... Whilst it's easy to criticise from a punters point of view perhaps the owners could pick up on small details that lower the look, like many light fittings not working or don't have bulbs in, mismatched cutlery of various types which could have had a polish after the dishwasher left its watermark, the car park signs are jaded and tired, the soft 2 seater settee at one side of our table which sitting to eat my meal required both cushions stacked to be able to be at least chest height to be comfortable eating. Toilet facilities in the gents are smaller than expected without any grab rails and no obvious disabled toilet unless I missed it which made it a little tricky to use but at least it was clean. Can't comment on rooms as didn't stay. Would I eat there again, yes, because it's vitally important to ANY village to keep the pub as the hub and support independents trying hard and in our case it's a 40 minute drive but worth the effort.

We stopped for dinner on way home from Cornwall, there were 8 of us in total, the young lady behind bar was extremely friendly and helpful. The food tasted delicious, out of 8 meals there wasn't 1 complaint, all plates were cleared, small children's play park in back garden too

Food was decent and a good price for what standard you get. I needed a bigger plate for my Scampi though and ate mushy peas off wood. Not ideal. Lovely young lad serving. Would recommend overall

Had a night above the pub, and a great meal. Room is a little tired but bed comfy, hot bath and kettle for a morning cuppa. Good hearty breakfast and very friendly staff.

Although we didn't use any rooms I've given it five stars because the rest of the pub is so nice, you would expect the rooms to be kept to a high standard. We love it here, even if it's a pint in the evening or food. The food is absolutely spectacular and it is a friendly welcoming pub
